The photovoltaic system is a clean and renewable energy source, but what are the pros and cons?
Producing energy through photovoltaics is undoubtedly an ethical and respectful choice towards our planet, and can even represent an opportunity for families and businesses to save money. Whether it can actually lower our bill, however, depends on various factors, which we must focus on before deciding to install a photovoltaic system.
Photovoltaics: pros
The first benefit would undoubtedly be for our planet. The energy produced by the photovoltaic system uses solar energy and transforms it into a totally green electricity. More in detail:
- We would produce energy in an ethical and clean way, with totally recyclable materials
- We would significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions into atmosphere
- We would produce energy independently and in the same place of consumption (avoiding pollution due to the transport and transmission of electricity)
In addition to the environmental benefits, the photovoltaic system is also good for our wallet. Certainly there would be a considerable initial outlay, but this should not be seen as a cost, but as an investment. In fact, within a few years the savings in the bill would repay the investment with subsequent interest.
Photovoltaics: cons
Despite the numerous advantages, there are some aspects that should not be underestimated, for example:
- An initial capital to invest
- The non-continuity of energy production, which changes depending on the exposure of the system to sunlight (a negative point that can be compensated by a storage system)
- The predisposition of the structure to adequately install the panels, as they produce at their best if facing south and inclined at about 30 degrees
Installing a photovoltaic system for your home is certainly a choice that must be well thought out. However, it is good to remember that when it comes to the good of our planet we should all feel compelled to do something more.
