Carvico and Jersey Lomellina for the environment

The battle to preserve the rights of nature

By Morgana Mercadante

Giuseppe Colnaghi founded Tessitura Colnaghi in the summer of 12 July 1962 Carvico Sas, the first Italian company to produce shuttle fabrics; it specialises in weaving, dyeing and fastening. Its credo is that of “the pleasure of things well done”, deciding to focus on product quality rather than quantity.

Company growth

Initially a manufacturer of woven shuttle fabrics, with the arrival of elastomer in the seventies, Carvico Sas changed its working methods: the company began producing warp-knitted stretch fabrics. This change proved to be very productive: in just a few years it became the pioneer and Italian leader in the production of this type of fabric. These fabrics are used to make swimwear, underwear, sportswear, furnishings and leisurewear.

On 11 November 1977, a new Italian entrepreneurial reality was born: Colnaghi set up Jersey Lomellina. It specialised in the production of circular knitted stretch cotton fabrics, which in 1988 became circular knitted stretch fabrics. The knitted fabric consists of a defined portion of yarn, which undergoes several folds during knitting to form a curl; regardless of the variety of looms, there are four points of contiguity in this type of fabric and the empty space created inside the curl is called the cover factor.

Sustainable fabrics

The choices on which the company is based are eco-sustainable and respect the rights of the environment and nature; the aim is to contribute to the model of the future, the circular economy, and to be a truly sustainable production chain. The aforementioned model of economy has the capacity to regenerate itself, and the material flows that constitute it are of two types: the biological ones, which are subsequently reintegrated into the biosphere, and the technical ones, which will be revalued.

The company is proud to say that it is the only one in the world to produce fabrics for the beachwear world, using ECONYL® regenerated nylon yarn: in this way waste can be a real resource for a new fashion and design product.

Nylon waste products such as carpets, rugs and fishing nets, which are normally disposed of in landfills, are instead recovered, reclaimed and processed by Aquafil in ECONYL yarn, resulting in eco-sustainable fabrics used by Carvico and Jersey Lomellina. They guarantee the same performance as standard fabrics.

A choice for nature

There are many ways in which we can help our planet with small gestures: one of them is to choose recycled materials rather than non-renewable raw materials. You are not giving up anything; on the contrary, it means having the same comforts but actively helping nature.

This is what the company is all about: high quality fabrics that respect the environment. If you want to find out more about Carvico and Jersey Lomellina, take a look at their website!
